Our story

We got engaged in March 2025, and decided to elope in October 2025. The definition of elope in modern times is broad – our version was a legal wedding in Lake Como with 2 witnesses and our young daughter. We told our close friends and family about it ahead of time.

At face value, eloping seems quick, straightforward and easy. But actually, there’s a lot of emotional and logistical things to consider before deciding to go down this route. We’re going to lay out the things that came up – and didn’t – along the way.

The unusual thing about our ceremony is that it was fully legal. When we first started researching, it seemed that as UK citizens we couldn’t get married in Italy. But you can! There’s some specific options and processes, but then you end up with a beautifully unique ceremony, and a translated wedding certificate that is recognised in the UK.

We absolutely loved our elopement, and we wanted to share the details so that others considering eloping can see the amazing opportunities out there, as well as make the process of legally marrying in Italy, easy.
